Netflix Picks Up Season Two of ‘Mo’

Netflix has renewed “Mo” for a second and final season. In August 2022, the streaming service released the first season of the single-camera comedy.

“I’m thankful to continue telling a universal story of struggle that relates to so many refugees and millions of under-represented humans trying to be seen around the globe, and to be able to bring the people who loved and rooted for Mo Najjar along for the ride as we close this chapter of his story,” said Mo Amer, series star, co-creator, and executive producer.

In the show, Amer plays a character based on himself. As a Palestinian refugee on the cusp of gaining asylum in the United States, Mo Najjar “straddles the border between two cultures, three languages, and a tonne of bulls-t,” as the official summary puts it. His strong mom and his unfiltered-but-hilarious brother make a break for it to Houston. Mo adjusts to his new environment with ease, but it’s difficult to advance when you’re bogged down in bureaucracy.

Teresa Ruiz plays Maria, Farah Bseiso plays Yusra, and Omar Elba plays Sameer with Amer in the show. Ramy Youssef, who is also an executive producer, collaborated with Amer to create the show. Co-executive producers include Harris Danow, Luvh Rakhe, and Solvan “Slick” Naim, who also directs the series. Production company A24.

The first season of “Mo” has a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which indicates universal critical praise upon its debut. The show will be acknowledged at the 2023 AFI Awards as well as the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Television Under 40 Minutes. Amer is also up for best lead performance in a new scripted series at the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards.
